In this post we’ll discuss different oil blends you can make yourself, as well as recommend some of our own products that we think are perfect for summer!
Types of Essential Oils for Summer
If you know a little about essential oils, you’ve probably heard them described or categorized by scent type. For example, “woody” or “earthy,” “citrus,” “herbal,” “floral,” etc. For hot, stuffy, or humid summer air, too many spicy or woody oils. Also, when applied to the body, spice oils produce a warming sensation rather than a cooling one.

So we like to stick with light and uplifting oils like herbal, citrus, and floral varieties. In the heat, we are more likely to feel drowsy or tired quickly, so it is good to use oils that are energizing and refreshing. A must have essential oil for summer. Here are some examples of oils we like to use in the summer:
1. Peppermint oil
Peppermint is the ultimate cooling oil. It is often used to relieve muscle aches and headaches because of the deep cooling sensation that targets the area you apply it to. This is a very stimulating oil that can also be used to give you a mental boost during a hot afternoon.DIY Diffuser Blend: Peppermint, Sweet Orange and Lime.
Our pick: We have an essential oil inhaler of this exact blend (above), called Mental Focus. Perfect for studying or a little pick-me-up on your commute.
2. Lemongrass oil
Lemongrass has a fresh, citrusy aroma that is very uplifting in terms of both energy and emotion. As an added summer bonus, it naturally repels mosquitoes!
DIY Diffuser Blend: Lemongrass, Thyme, Eucalyptus, and Basil (a very herbal blend).
Our pick: ‘Roll on Energizing Oil’ perfume oil works wonders for everything from headaches to boosting your alertness levels throughout the day (just roll it on your temples and massage it in). Also try our ‘Vitality’ diffuser blend, a blend of lemongrass and grapefruit essential oils.
3. Geranium oil
Geranium oil has a floral aroma that is incredibly unique, almost reminiscent of citrus oils. Geranium is known to reduce mental fatigue and keep insects away! Its beautiful floral scent also makes a great summer perfume ingredient.DIY Diffuser Blend: Lavender, Geranium, and Roman Chamomile.
Our pick: Our new ‘Sensuality’ Be Home diffuser oil is a blend of ylang ylang, geranium, Palma rosa and patchouli, creating the perfect balance of scents.
4. Eucalyptus oil
Eucalyptus has been a classic go-to oil for ages. It is most commonly known for its use as a decongestant and antiseptic. It blends well with other oils to create a pleasant and refreshing scent for diffusers and perfume oils. Eucalyptus works as an insect repellent as well as an antidote for bites and stings.DIY Diffuser Oils: Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Clove and Lemongrass.
Our pick: We create a ‘Breathe Easy’ perfume oil which is a cooling and invigorating blend of eucalyptus, basil, rosemary and marjoram.
5. Lavender oil
Lavender oil is a calming oil, often used to reduce stress and anxiety. It has a floral aroma that blends well with mint and lemon scents. Lavender adds a soothing and grounding undertone that balances the intensity of oils like peppermint.DIY Diffuser Oils: Lavender, Cypress, Juniper Berry, Peppermint.
Our pick: Our ‘Balance’ diffuser oil is a simplified version of the blend listed above. It contains only lavender and peppermint oils, which work in perfect harmony.

The warm summer months are the perfect time to diffuse and blend light, energizing, herbal, floral and cooling essential oils. Oils from the peppermint, citrus and floral families are especially good in the summer.
Essential oil flowers and herbs picked from my garden
Below is a list of essential oils selected with summer use in mind. This is a highly subjective list. For example, I grow patchouli in the summer, and tend to enjoy the scent of patchouli all year round. I also like to add ginger essential oil to summer blends, but this is a warming essential oil. You can check out AromaWeb’s list of 110 oils in the Essential Oil Profiles area to see if there are additional essential oils that you personally like for summer.

I have added a few spicy essential oils like ginger. Spicy essential oils are strong and quite hot. A little goes a long way with the spice oil. They should not be spread over the room as they may irritate the mucous membranes. It is best to blend stronger spice oils with milder oils such as sweet orange essential oil (see section on Blending Spice Oils below).

A warning about peppermint essential oils and spice oils like ginger
Peppermint oils, especially peppermint essential oil and spice essential oils such as ginger essential oil can be quite strong. When I make a seasonal essential oil diffuser blend, I usually start with an essential oil that I particularly enjoy and then supplement it by adding a spice oil in smaller proportions. .
In this article I focus on oil selection for diffusion. When making concoctions and topical products that you apply to your skin, remember that many essential oils can cause skin irritation and should be used in incredibly low dilutions, if at all. be
